Transparency Through the Patient Financial Journey
The patient's financial journey has become a critical component of the overall patient experience. This paper aims to emphasize the potential benefits and patient outcomes when transparency is infused throughout the patient journey starting from the point of scheduling/registration, throughout the episode of care, all the way to billing and when an account is closed to a $0 balance. The survey included in this paper highlights the responses from 40 individuals, some who work in the health care industry and others who do not, and their preferences as a patient as it pertains to receiving estimates pre-service, knowing their payment options before receiving services, transparency on billing statements including individualized payment options, and the overall importance of transparency as it pertains to their financial obligations.
