The patient's financial journey has become a critical component of the overall patient experience. This paper aims to emphasize the potential benefits and patient outcomes when transparency is infused throughout the patient journey starting from the point of scheduling/registration, throughout the episode of care, all the way to billing and when an account is closed to a $0 balance. The survey included in this paper highlights the responses from 40 individuals, some who work in the health care industry and others who do not, and their preferences as a patient as it pertains to receiving estimates pre-service, knowing their payment options before receiving services, transparency on billing statements including individualized payment options, and the overall importance of transparency as it pertains to their financial obligations.

Transparency Through the Patient Financial Journey

The healthcare administration concern that this paper emphasizes is patient matching challenges. Patient matching is a chief factor in data integrity issues within the electronic health record. Inaccurate patient matching is the leading cause of poor-quality care at the provider level and through the health information exchange. Study shows that selecting a unique patient-matching algorithm can reduce duplicate medical records and diminish the risk of harm or death caused by medical errors. A group of healthcare workers took a survey on patient matching. Survey results show that patient matching is a concern across the healthcare industry.

Patient portals increase patient satisfaction, quality, communication, engagement, and outcomes. An individual’s electronic medical record (EMR) can be accessed using these portals on a stationary computer or application via a mobile device or smartphone. The Cures Act enacted that EMR information must be made available for patients to access. According to the Health Information National Trends Survey of 2020, approximately forty percent of individuals in the U.S. accessed a patient portal (ONC, 2021). There is an opportunity for an increase in this percentage. As with many technologies, there may be a gap in understanding and immediate usage adoption. Patient portals have many features that those enrolled do not take advantage of utilizing or fully understand the scope of. To address these concerns, organizations must support the enrollment and education of patient portals.

Will organizational support of patient portals increase patient enrollment, engagement and healthcare outcomes?

Ecumen Lakeshore is a senior healthcare and housing campus with two hundred seventy residents living in Duluth, Minnesota. The services provided at Ecumen Lakeshore primarily consist of skilled nursing care, assisted living, memory care, and independent living. Ecumen Lakeshore is responsible for delivering healthcare services to approximately 50% of those who reside there. This population needs assistance with daily living activities (ADLs), including personal hygiene, medications, dressing, walking, and nutrition. The people receiving care or services due to needing assistance with one or more ADLs meet the definition of being a vulnerable adult, according to the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS, 2021). This vulnerable population residing in a congregate living facility is why facility operators must be prepared to safely evacuate the building in the event of an emergency.

Evacuation Planning for Vulnerable Populations

In Healthcare, high turnover rates are at an all-time high, and the main reason is workforce morale. Healthcare administrators must possess many skillsets or coaching skills when keeping a workforce motivated, happy and inspired. Morale is an excellent tool to (evaluate) and gauges the success of your organization. There is a saying that states a happy wife is satisfied in life. People have concluded that your marriage will succeed when your wife is happy. This saying originated from a 1908 and 1903 poem entitled "The Work and Wages Party." The irony of work and wages is mentioned in the poem. Thus, it coincides with the workers; the wife is the worker, and the husband is the company's leader. Being a leader is a great responsibility. In Healthcare, the CEO and other higher-tier- management figures are responsible for leading companies to be successful. Evaluating worker satisfaction has been a challenge in the industry to determine better if workers are pleased has been a challenge, especially for rapid workers. Although many underpaid employees love what they do, there is a higher possibility that they will be less satisfied with the organization.

Morale in Healthcare

This research paper explores ten scholarly articles that report on the results of research performed via a literature review and a research survey conducted using the Likert Scale method, open-ended questions, and random sampling. These results assess the relationship to the nursing shortage facing the U.S. The selected articles offer possible contributing factors, such as the necessity and scarcity of nurses and the role external factors play in the nursing shortage. This paper will utilize the articles and results to provide insight into the next decade in the nursing profession and what the future holds concerning the nursing shortage in the U.S.

There has been an increase in mental health cases among correctional officers across Connecticut. Excessive work hours in correctional facilities are linked to causing high-stress environments resulting in mental health problems; facilities realize high stress and fewer stress workers are experiencing more attendance issues, negatively impacting the health of healthy correctional officers. Much research has been done on mental health outcomes associated with corrective work. Mental health disorders include anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and other issues related to well-being and life quality.

Daily we see individuals struggling and stressing about how they will receive medical care when they don’t have medical coverage or even can afford care with high out-of-pocket responsibilities. This research paper will evaluate patient struggles and how healthcare costs affect access to their care. Data were collected from surveys conducted in an outpatient Orthopedic Clinic from 25 patients who voluntarily took the survey. The survey results will explain the type of patients that struggle and the reasoning behind their struggles.

How Does the Cost of Healthcare Affect Access to Care?

Healthcare is constantly changing and evolving. One way that healthcare has exponentially grown recently is the telehealth sector. Only some healthcare visits can transition to a virtual format. For those appointments that can, telehealth can save time and money and improve patient satisfaction if the technology is available, well-functioning, and user-friendly for patients and staff (Parmanto, Lewis, Graham, and Bertolet, 2016). Telehealth can be especially beneficial in rural communities with access or transportation barriers to receiving treatment. Patient satisfaction is essential to providing quality healthcare (Kruse, Krowski, Rodriguez, Tran, Vela, & Brooks, 2017). Telehealth can bridge that gap between not receiving care and receiving good care. Utilizing telehealth will increase overall patient satisfaction and healthcare utilization.

Evaluation of Telehealth Satisfaction

This study determines if patients could access healthcare services during the height of the Covid-19 Pandemic and if there were any health consequences due to any delay in obtaining preventive appointments. The pandemic caused healthcare delivery to change dramatically. Telemedicine became the new normal and presented many challenges for patients and medical staff. For this research study, a survey questionnaire was used to gather information about the participants' views on healthcare access during this time. The survey questionnaire was interpreted using statistical analysis, and graphic displays of the results were presented. A literature review was performed to assess if other studies were comparable to the findings of this research topic. The research study will be used to find if patients had experienced any delay in treatment for medical conditions during the covid 19 pandemic and if this caused any further anxiety or concerns due to lack of access to their physicians. Future studies would be appropriate to assess the long-term health consequences of delayed care.
